4 Popcorn and Wine Pairings for Your Next Movie Night

Did you know January 19th is National Popcorn Day?

We are excited about National Popcorn Day because popcorn is so versatile. Everyone has their perfect popcorn mix that they live by! Do you love your popcorn drenched in butter? Do you drown it in hot sauce? Do you love the sweet and salty kettle corn popcorn? What about Chicago Style, a mixture of caramel and cheddar. The possibilities are endless. Did you know dogs can even eat non buttered plain popcorn as a treat? Yes, our dogs love popcorn!

Now what is better than popcorn? Popcorn and wine of course! Do you know you can have popcorn and wine is dinner! LOL... no seriously!

We have a new website

Let's begin breaking down the 4 wine pairings you can create for your next movie night. We only used 2 bags of microwave popcorn and ingredients we had in our house!

This one was easy! We paired movie theater buttered microwave popcorn with Steeple Street Chardonnay. This unoaked, crisp and lively Chardonnay pairs well with the buttery popcorn. Yes, a oaked Chardonnay would also go well with the popcorn but the toasty apple notes and creamy feel of this wine is the perfect balance.

SHOP STEEPLE STREET

Yum, Parmesan & Herbs Popcorn. In a small bowl mix together grated parmesan and herbs. Any herbs would do, such as basil, rosemary, oregano, and Italian seasoning. Pour the cheese and herb mixture over the popcorn and mix well. TIP Put the popcorn in a bag or covered storage container and shake until well coated. Pair this popcorn with a medium to full bodied red wine. We chose Desvia Tempranillo, a certified organic wine from Spain. Tempranillo pairs well with parmesan and gouda cheeses. Sprinkling fresh gouda on this popcorn would take it to the next level!

Bring on the heat with Sriracha Popcorn. Drizzle your popcorn with your favorite sriracha. Kick it up a notch and add cumin, chili powder, cayenne pepper, and even lime zest! It's your world, so do you! We paired this hot popcorn with Calamity Sue Riesling. Yes, Riesling pairs well with spicy food, especially Mexican, Indian, and Thai dishes. Calamity Sue has notes of white pepper, which brings out the flavor of the sriracha.

The last popcorn and wine pairing is absolutely delicious. It's the perfect sweet and salty pair; mixing the salty & buttery popcorn, marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate chips! Pairs well with the sweet and fizzy red wine, Fissata. This wine and popcorn pairing reminds us of going to the movies and pouring our buncha crunch into our popcorn and drinking an ice cold slurpee! Also pairs well with Prosecco.

Learn How to Make S'mores Popcorn

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Step 2: Pop popcorn (we used buttered microwave popcorn)

Step 3: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

Step 4: Place the popcorn on a baking sheet or pan and top with semi-sweet chocolate chips, marshmallows, and crumbled graham crackers. We had big marshmallows and broke them up into smaller pieces.

Step 5: Bake until the marshmallows are browned and gooey! About 8 minutes. We also burned more big marshmallows and placed them on the top of the popcorn after we put the mixture in the bowl. We love the taste of burnt marshmallows!

Check out our new website. We will eventually move the blog over to the new website
