Paint a Wine Glass - Valentine's Day Craft

Valentine's Day craft ideas
Valentine's Day can be a romantic time for some and a stressful time for others. There is so much pressure put on this one day to find a date or give the perfect gift.  Yes, Valentine's Day is special but to us it's not about the gifts or the date, it's about taking time to cherish the ones you love. The celebration of this day has changed so much throughout the years. Many people now make it a girls night out, a family movie night, or a baking night. With Valentine's Day being on a Tuesday this year, we thought it would be fun to incorporate a craft. We always saw those painted wine glasses on Pinterest, so we decided to tackle it on our own. Now none of us are great artists, so do not worry if you don't have any artistic skills. All of us felt so relaxed while we were painting. That is what it's all about. This craft can also be done with older children. They can paint another type of glass besides a wine glass. Even the little kids can get in on the action. While you are painting a wine glass, they can be using finger paints on another project. It's fun for yourself, your girls or the entire family.

Let's get started
Step 1: Clean the wine glass with soap and warm water and dry it.
Step 2: Use rubbing alcohol to wipe down the glass to get rid of any excess dirt, oil or fingerprints. White vinegar will also work. Let the glass dry for 7-10 minutes.
Step 3: Place masking tape on the rim of the glass.
Step 4: Design the glass. Sketch the design on a piece of paper first before putting it on the glass, or just freestyle it. Use stencils, the possibilities are endless. We also printed out some designs we found online to help us get creative.

when painting a wine glass, get creative.

Setting the paint
After you are done painting, there are 2 things you can do. You can either let the painted glass air dry for at least 21 days before you can use it, or you can heat set it in the oven. If you decide to heat set it, then you need to let the glass dry for 24 hours. The next step is to line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil; place the glass on the foil; put the glass on the lined cookie sheet in the oven; turn the oven on to 350°F; and let the glass bake for 20 minutes. You then will turn off the oven and let it sit for another 10 minutes. Lastly, remove the glass. An important note is to not put the glass in a hot oven because the glass will break. It needs to go into a cold oven.
